  • The Festival committee is looking for members! Come add your ideas! Meeting on Tuesday at 7 pm at the Community Center or contact Tessa at City Hall.
  • and Mrs. John Dilks are celebrating their 55th Wedding Anniversary on Thursday. John says he’s so lucky that Irene has stuck with him all this time. Irene says the secret of their marriage is Booze.
  • Wilbur Pflueger was pulled over for driving too slow on his John Deere tractor last Thursday afternoon. Traffic was backed up for almost a mile behind him. Wilbur says he didn’t want to get home before he listened to the entire Chase Rice album. Mayor Bennett is now looking for donations to buy Wilbur an iPod.
  • Police were called to the Hanson house on 2945 Dirt Road to help find Ducky, the cow. Ducky was found trampling the Hanson’s prize winning daisies. Barb Hanson was threatening to turn the cow in to dinner. Ducky seemed unfazed by all the hubbub.
  • The firefighters will be having their annual spaghetti dinner on the 14th. They will also be selling their calendars. Rumor has it that Hailey finally gave her permission for Derek Wright to pose shirtless! Buy yours and find out!
  • Bingo night at the legion will be held 8 instead of 7 due to the town council meeting elections! Don’t forget to vote! Marlene Brown is running for councilwoman and brings many years of experience!
  • The bookstore is starting something new! Readings by authors! Our first author will be Erin Nicholas! More details to come! (and if anyone knows of a reasonably priced limo service—or has a big black car—to pick her up at the airport, let Lucy know).
  • In other book news… join the book club! Everyone is welcome! (please note, the emphasis is on romance novels. Anyone who brings anything by JD Salinger will be required to provide the wine for the next meeting) We just finished Magnificent Bastard by Lili Valenti and will be starting She’s the One, by Erin Nicholas… just in time for her visit to the bookstore!
  • Volunteers needed to help cut up trees in the park in Chance following the storm last weekend. We will meet at 9:00 on Saturday and carpool to Chance. Bring your chainsaw.
  • The annual Kiwanis pancake breakfast will be held in the town hall on Saturday morning from 7 am to 9 am. Proceeds will go to buy the pumpkins for the town square for the Halloween festival.
  • Come support your PTA at the Dine and Dance the last Saturday of each month in the school gymnasium. All proceeds go the school. $25 per person includes dinner and two tickets for drinks. $10 more will get you a Blind-Date-Dance with one of Sapphire Falls’ most eligible bachelors (but you have to show up to see who it is!)
  • The annual Easter egg hunt will start at the gazebo this year. Don’t forget to wear your best hat for the hats off contest, to be judged after the Easter parade. Competition will be stiff as Miss Mildred Carter will defend her title of Best of Show from last year!
  • We are so excited to congratulate Tucker and Delaney Bennett! They will be adding a fifth baby to their wonderful brood. No news on if it’s a girl or boy yet… stay tuned! (and enter the pool at the Come Again… Bryan insists it’s a girl)
  • A big Sapphire Falls welcome to Bernie Jenkins, owner of “Under Lock and Key” the new locksmith shop on Route 6. Mention ‘this ad for $10 off your first services.
  • The Ladies Aid Society of the First Lutheran church will be meeting in the church hall for their monthly quilting bee on Friday morning at 9am. Coffee and donuts will be served.
  • There will be a Cake Walk following the Little League baseball game on June 18th. We know for certain there will be THREE German Chocolate cakes from Kathy Bennett herself! Don’t miss it!
  • Signups are still open for Little League! Tucker, Ty, TJ and Travis Bennett will be coaching the four teams… get your tickets for that spectacle alone!
  • Girl Scout Cookie Sale is now full swing!!! Come support Kimmy Jean, and the rest of the girls in Troop 221.
  • The Bang and Blow salon will be having a sale on all hair dye and self-tanning lotion. Apparently, there was an extra zero added to their last order and they have an overstock! Stop by this week!
  • Dottie is trying out a few new menu items this month! If you like squash or Brussel sprouts, she could use your input—she’s having trouble finding taste testers… for some reason.
  • The SFFD was called out to the home of Walter and Hildy Garlock to rescue their cat Lulu from the treehouse in their backyard. Their grandson, Parker, was questioned in regards to Lulu’s presence in the treehouse in the first place. And the other cat, George, who Walter and Hildy knew nothing about. Parker says the cats are in love and Lulu was ready to move out on her own.
  • Colton James scored 20 points for Sapphire Falls High School Miners in last week’s defeat of the Chance High School Wildcats. Final score was 57-35. The Miners are undefeated this basketball season!
  • This year we’re having a Daffodil festival! The festival will include a craft fair, pancake breakfast, 5k run and a dance in the park on Saturday night. More details to come!
